Mary Ryan Brown is a writer and performer whose Southern and literary roots have made her a distinct, versatile player in today’s entertainment landscape. From the pageantry of the garden club to the performance art of everyday domestic life, Mary Ryan both celebrates and mocks the cultural carnival of the South through her caricatures of Southern women. In her “Weird Daughters” series, Mary Ryan honors the Taffeta Chiffons of the world—that is, girls who would rather be weird than boring—and the mothers who love and raise them. A weird daughter herself, Mary Ryan takes great joy in singing the praises of the outliers, the deviants, and the squeaky wheels who make life colorful. Mary Ryan has amassed a total following of over 350,000, sold out at clubs and venues across the country, shot a Dry Bar comedy special, acted in a Southern Living limited series, and opened for nationally acclaimed comedians like Ryan Hamilton, Heather McMahan, and more.
